Festive Fall Favorites

Bring a Little Wild Into Your Fall Decor

Fall is the perfect time to cozy up your space, add a few seasonal touches, and bring a little more nature indoors. While pumpkins, candles, and warm autumn colors may steal the spotlight this time of year, we think plants deserve a place in your fall decorating plans too.

And this season, we are embracing the fun, unusual, mysterious, and just a little spooky side of plants.

From sculptural succulents and dramatic Snake Plants to bug catching carnivorous plants, our Spooky Plant Collection is filled with botanical beauties that bring personality to your home or garden.

Why Plants Belong in Your Fall Decor

Fall is all about creating a space that feels comfortable, welcoming, and connected to the season. Plants can do exactly that.

But their beauty is only part of the story.

Research has found associations between indoor plants and improved mental well being, including lower perceived stress and fewer negative emotions. One recent study also found that regularly tending an indoor plant was associated with reductions in perceived stress, depressive symptoms, negative affect, and rumination.

There is something wonderfully grounding about caring for a living thing. Watering, checking new growth, wiping leaves, repotting, or simply taking a few minutes to admire your plants can create a small moment of mindfulness in an otherwise busy day.

So this fall, decorate your home with something that does more than look beautiful.

Bring home a little piece of nature.

Meet the Dragon Bone Cactus

Shop the Dragon Bone Cactus ‘Elkhorn’

Dragon Bone Cactus ‘Elkhorn’ in 6" Nursery Planter.

A Little Dramatic. A Little Mysterious. Completely Unforgettable.

If your fall decorating style leans toward the unusual, the Dragon Bone Cactus ‘Elkhorn’ deserves a spot on your plant shelf.

With its architectural, four angled stems and dramatic dragon like appearance, this plant looks like it wandered straight out of a botanical fantasy.

But here is the fun part:

It is not actually a cactus!

The Dragon Bone Cactus is a Euphorbia lactea, a succulent in the Euphorbiaceae family. Its stems are photosynthetic, allowing the plant to thrive with very few leaves. It is also slow growing, drought tolerant, and loved for its sculptural form rather than its flowers.

That unusual shape makes it a natural fit for fall decorating. Pair it with earthy pottery, wood tones, pumpkins, or other desert inspired décor for a display that feels festive without being overly traditional.

One important note for pet parents: this plant is not pet friendly. Like other Euphorbias, it produces an irritating milky sap and should be handled carefully and kept away from curious pets and children.

Snake Plants: The Fall Decor MVP

Explore Our Snake Plant Collection

Tall, Sculptural, and Seriously Easygoing

Looking for a plant that can make a statement without demanding constant attention?

Say hello to the Snake Plant.

With their upright leaves, bold patterns, and architectural shapes, Snake Plants are practically made for decorating. They can add height to a room, fill an empty corner, or bring a modern botanical touch to your fall décor.

And there is no shortage of personalities to choose from at Verdant Lyfe.

Our current collection includes Bantel’s Sensation, Black Dragon, Fernwood, Sansevieria Cylindrea, Shark Fin, Whitney, Black Gold, Silver Moonshine, Yellowstone, Light Sansevieria, Variegated Golden Edge, and Black Coral, along with our Snake Stack Bundle.

Did You Know?

Snake Plants use a specialized form of photosynthesis called CAM photosynthesis. Instead of opening their stomata during the hottest part of the day, CAM plants can take in carbon dioxide at night and process it during the day.

Snake Plants have also been studied for their ability to remove certain indoor air pollutants under controlled conditions.

That makes them an especially appealing choice for bedrooms, offices, living spaces, and anywhere you want to create a calmer, greener environment.

And let's be honest...

Their dramatic silhouettes look pretty amazing next to fall décor.

The Plants Stealing the Spotlight

Carnivorous Plants Are Having a Moment

Shop Carnivorous Plants

Move over pumpkins.

The plants stealing the spotlight this spooky season are the ones that eat bugs.

Our Carnivorous Plant Collection is filled with fascinating plants including Venus Flytraps, Sarracenia pitcher plants, Nepenthes pitcher plants, Sundews, and Butterworts.

These plants aren't just wonderfully weird. They have evolved some seriously clever ways to survive.

Carnivorous plants typically grow in environments where nutrients such as nitrogen can be limited. Instead of relying entirely on the soil, they have evolved specialized structures that allow them to capture insects and obtain nutrients from their prey.

Venus Flytraps snap shut.

Pitcher Plants use slippery, pitcher shaped leaves to trap insects.

Sundews use sticky surfaces to capture tiny prey.

And Butterworts use sticky leaves that look almost innocent until an insect lands on them.

Nature really does have the best tricks.

More Than Just Spooky

Carnivorous plants also remind us that every plant has a role to play in the natural world. Insects are essential to ecosystems, providing services including pollination, decomposition, and natural pest control.

Some carnivorous plants also have fascinating relationships with insects and other organisms. For example, research on pitcher plants has documented insects visiting for nectar while occasionally becoming prey themselves.

So while they may look like the perfect spooky season statement plant, they are also incredible examples of adaptation and biodiversity.

Creepy? Maybe.

Cool? Absolutely.

A Ghost in the Garden

Shop the White Ghost Albo Succulent

White Ghost Albo Succulent Plant

Meet the White Ghost Albo Succulent

If you want something that looks like it belongs in a haunted botanical garden, meet the White Ghost Albo Succulent.

Its pale, almost ghostly coloring makes it a natural choice for spooky season decorating, but its unusual appearance means it can easily become a year round statement plant too.

The White Ghost is Euphorbia lactea 'White Ghost', also known as White Ghost Cactus, White Ghost Candelabra Spurge, and White Ghost Candle Stick Tree. Despite its cactus inspired appearance, it is actually a succulent Euphorbia.

Under the right conditions, this dramatic plant can become quite large, reaching 8 feet or more outdoors, while developing a distinctive branching form. Mature plants can also produce pale yellow tubular flowers.

Its ghostly coloring makes it especially fun for fall displays.

Think:

Black pots.

Warm wood tones.

Pumpkins.

Dried florals.

And one seriously striking White Ghost.

Make Your Space Feel More Like You

Fall decorating does not have to mean completely transforming your home.

Sometimes one unusual plant is enough to change the feeling of a room.

A sculptural Dragon Bone Cactus can become a conversation piece. A Snake Plant can add height and texture to an empty corner. A White Ghost can bring an unexpected pop of personality. And a carnivorous plant can give your plant collection a little bit of wonderfully wild character.

Most importantly, plants give us an opportunity to slow down.

They remind us that growth takes time. That little changes can become beautiful transformations. And that caring for something living can become a simple ritual that brings us back to the present moment.

This fall, make room for a little more green.

And maybe a little more wild.
