Plant Care

Light
Japanese Juniper Bonsai grows best outdoors in full sun, where it receives at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight each day. While it can be displayed indoors for special occasions or short periods, it should not be grown indoors long term.

Watering
Keep the soil evenly moist but never soggy. Water thoroughly whenever the top inch of soil begins to dry, allowing excess water to drain freely from the pot. Because bonsai containers are shallow, check the soil daily during warm weather.

Humidity
Junipers appreciate moderate humidity, especially in drier climates. A humidity tray with pebbles may provide additional moisture around the tree. Misting is optional and should only supplement proper watering, not replace it.

Temperature
This cold hardy bonsai enjoys the changing seasons and performs best outdoors. Protect container grown trees from prolonged hard freezes or extreme weather by placing them in a sheltered location.

Fertilizing
Feed once a month during spring and summer using our Lyfe Nutrient Fertilizer. Reduce feeding during fall and discontinue fertilizing during winter dormancy.

Pruning & Training
Regular pruning encourages dense branching and helps maintain the tree's miniature form. Pinch or trim new growth throughout the growing season. Remove dead or damaged branches as needed. Wiring may be used to shape branches, taking care not to leave wire on long enough to scar the bark. Avoid cutting back into old bare wood, as junipers do not readily produce new growth from older stems.

Repotting
Repot every 2 to 3 years in early spring before new growth begins using a well draining bonsai soil mix. Root pruning during repotting helps maintain the tree's compact size and overall health.

Pet Friendly
No. Japanese Juniper Bonsai (Juniperus procumbens 'Nana') is not pet friendly and may cause stomach upset if ingested by cats or dogs.

Whether you're a seasoned bonsai enthusiast, an avid gardener, or simply looking for a unique living centerpiece, the Japanese Juniper Bonsai 'Nana' is sure to become a favorite. Its timeless beauty, artistic form, and calming presence make it a wonderful addition to patios, balconies, gardens, or sunny outdoor spaces.
